The reverse (back) features a design by John M. Mercanti, showcasing a heraldic eagle with a shield, holding an olive branch and arrows. The eagle is surrounded by 13 stars, representing the original 13 colonies of the United States. The inscriptions on this side include UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, 1 OZ. FINE SILVER, and E PLURIBUS UNUM.
